Find the sweet spot between the sturdy, stainless-steel and plastic versions of the same knife. The Good Grips knife is dishwasher-safe. Good knife, but can get between the shells easily with the large grip and the large size makes it easy to open and cut away at the muscle on the top of the oyster. It's not a "top-popper" that is designed to open the shells from the hinge, but it does a great job and is at the right price point. No issues with washing in the dishwasher. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The first really good oyster knife I've ever used in 55 years!
Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2020 by Wayne R., Ossipee, NH

"Grab hold of the oyster with a gloved hand or towel with the hinge pointed toward you and the cup facing down. With the concave curve of the blade facing up, work the point forcibly into the hinge, working side to side. When the point has a good bite, lever down like a shovel prying a rock, and the hinge just pops! Slide the knife blade into the upper shell and sweep side to side, cutting the adductor muscle and discard the top shell. Similarly, sweep the underside of the oyster with the curved blade and free it from the cup. With this knife, a person of decent hand strength can easily shuck a stubborn oyster in less than a minute, and most in less than half. I highly recommend cut resistant gloves on a towel padded surface for the easiest handling of oysters."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It made quick work of a dozen pacific oysters.
Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2019 by Zoey C. Pantscowitz

"I am by no means a professional oyster shucker, but one YouTube video and this oyster knife later, and I had a dozen shucked oysters. They were pacific, and this knife was thin enough to get in the crack of the shell. If I had smaller oysters with weaker hinges, I’m sure they would have been great for them too. I’m probably not going to win any shucking competitions, but it did the job despite my small hands."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Excellent oyster knife

"I have a number of oyster knives, and this one is surely the best of the lot. After a few oysters, the handle gets slippery, though. Your wet hand on the smooth wet rubber makes for slipping. A piece of nonskid rubber wrapped around the handle helps. I wear a Kevlar glove on my left hand. I keep my oysters in the refrigerator's vegetable bins for a day. They pop open much easier that way."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Makes me look like a pro with just 10-15 seconds per oyster now
Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2017 by Y. Woo

"I'm a novice at oysters...maybe 3 dozens every 2 weeks for family gathering on small oysters(sashimi style). The handle/grip and pointy edge of this tool made a world of difference compared to the old blunt(rounded off edge) of my store bought oyster knife. Makes me look like a pro with just 10-15 seconds per oyster now. No more guess work."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ You can't eat the shell...so get this!
Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2019 by Boi Named Sous

"To open a LOT of oysters you need a knife with good leverage. This one is just so-so. There is enough flex in the rubber-ergo handle that you need to twist your wrist a little more to get the initial opening. If you just want one to open shells for that ONE holiday dinner, this will work. If you are working at a raw bar...find a knife with a wooden handle."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Oysters at home safely
Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2020 by Albert Kim

"This is just a perfectly designed tool. I shucked with a screwdriver before and it was doable but it was awkward and I was always scared of stabbing myself accidentally. Using this oyster knife with a towel to grip the oyster securely you can make short work of even dainty oysters. The edge is made to dig into even small hinges and simply twisting/grinding back and forth will inevitably unlock any oyster. The angle to the blade also frees the oyster from the shell with little fuss. There is still some elbow grease involved but hey you earned it."

Best Oyster Knife

We have tried a few oyster knifes and we think that the OXO Good Grips is the best. Find the angle to the blade that works best for you. With the OXO Good Grip Oyster Knife, shucking oysters was never easier. This knife is really strong and flexible steel that will not break like others. Highly recommend. If you like oysters, then you need one of these. The curved blade is great for sliding under the bottom part of the oyster and flipping it in one motion. This is a solid utensil. This knife has successfully shucked 48 oysters on two separate occasions. The beefier grip is nice. It could be a little sharper for dislodging the oyster from the shell after you've opened it.

The bent tip of the OXO Good Grips blade makes opening oysters easy. Buy this and the shucker gloves with this. They work great. My first oyster knife. It worked well with those large-ish oysters. I was having trouble prying open small ones. But I guess it simply takes practice Great oyster knife, the grip is really comfortable. The knife really gets into stubborn shells. Good oyster knife. Shucked half a bushel over Thanksgiving no problem, held up well. I just got into opening my own or oysters and this thing is super sturdy It was okay but could have been stronger and more durable with a thinner sharper stronger blade; but okay as is...

Non Slip Oyster Knife

The rubber handle of the knife is very comfortable and will give you a good grip. Buy this knife and learn the technique. You will not be disappointed. It doesn't matter what knife you buy if you try and open it wrong...you will be frustrated. Just a few additional comments. The handle is a good size, even for my large hands. It doesn't get slippery when wet. The curved blade is a HUGE plus. I was a little wary ordering these knives since this was going to be our first oyster-shucking experience, and the reviews were mixed. However, the knives worked perfectly once we figured out what exactly we were supposed to be doing.

Opening slippery oysters requires a properly made non slip handle. Buy this knife and learn the technique. You will not be disappointed. Buy this knife and you will not be disappointed. The thing you should get is a good grip on it. The knife is pretty sturdy and easy to use. I wouldn't recommend buying this knife with a friend. I bought this knife for my boyfriend who is going to be steamer digging this summer and needs certain tools. I found this and honestly wasn't sure if it was what he'd need/want and if the price was good, well he loved it and said it was a very good price!! I use this to remove the membrane from the back of ribs before smoking. Makes the job easy.
