Tovolo Sphere Ice Molds Review

"It was darn nigh impossible for women in rock in the 70s. There wasn't a mold if you were a woman and you were in the entertainment in the 70s. You were probably a disco diva or a folk singer, or simply ornamental. Radio would play only one woman per hour"

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ These are great for the price
Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2017 by Artie

"These are great for the price. Totally changed the way I knock back pure expensive liquor. It will be cloudy, crack, and melt faster if you do it right side up. PRO TIP FOR SOLID CLEAR(er) ICE: Fill it with pre-boiled/filtered or distilled water, and place them upside down in a very small cooler with 1/2 inch of water. A cooler like this would be fine: MIER Soft Cooler Bag Small Insulated Lunch Box Bag for Kids, Girls, Boys(Green) You'll have to place your finger over the hole so it doesn't leak and make sure they stay level in the freezer. When ice crystals form, they become less dense than water, so it freezes from the top down forcing the gas to come out of solution. Placing the hole on the bottom with water to retain the seal lets the air escape. Close the cooler for slower freezing, which takes about 2-3 days depending on your temperature. See the before and after pics. You don't have to spend all the crazy money on clear ice makers."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Whiskey Lovers
Reviewed in the United States on May 28, 2019 by Chris M

"If you like whiskey on the rocks then you should get it. You would be surprised how many guests comment on the spheres when I bust them out. These spherical ice cube makers overall are a lot of fun. They’re pretty cheap and I really wish I purchased them a few years ago. Tip: You can get significantly clearer spheres of ice when You use boiled tap water before freezing. I love feedback so please let me know if this review was Helpful or not helpful."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Works great when you follow YouTube left by another customer
Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2017 by Carol Humphrey

"Box had no instructions, but I went to the company's site on the box and saw YouTube video posted but another customer. My first batch was ugly because I'm an idiot and filled the water using the little hole in the top. That hole is for expansion people. Lol. Fill to the water line and place in freezer. It's just that simple. Let sit on counter a few minutes and it pops right out. if you run water over it, you'll cause cracks. Love this gadget. Highly recommend you use it and get it right the first time."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ PERFECT !!! Works as advertised !!!
Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2020 by Joseph B. McMullin

"Fantastic product and works perfectly! I was skeptical because of the low price, but the results speak for themselves. Follow the steps exactly as the instructions say. Fill only to the line in the lower section of the mold, no more and no less. The first time I overfilled and the ball was out of shape also, as the instructions say freeze for ONLY four hours and no more. The only thing I did differently was to use distilled water and boil, let the water get to room temperature, fill the mold, then froze for the required time. Take a look at these photographs! I love this product and will purchase more from this seller again."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Disappointed with results. There ARE tricks? Update to 4 stars.
Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2018 by Lisa

"There must be a trick... I bought 2 sets of 2, and have tried both hot distilled water and room temperature distilled water without success. Hot water results were 2 salvaged ice spheres, both cloudy with a lot of cracks (and 2 that fell apart). Room temperature results were 3 salvaged cubes (and 1that split in 2), also cloudy and and show lots of cracks. I’ve ordered a small cooler with the hope that placing the filled molds inside it will slow the freezing process and help get more clear cubes. I’ve had relatively good success with yield from other brands (both squares and rounds of various sizes), but still not getting “clear” cubes and spheres. In fairness, the molds are well made but I expected far better results. Update: After some trial and error, my spheres are getting better so an update is warranted. There ARE some tricks. Distilled water! It does turn out that using these inside an insulated lunch bag helps slow down the freezing process and resulting in more clear spheres. Also, rinsing them prior to putting them into a cocktail will remove the frostiness and make them look like oversized glass marbles. Still not perfectly clear, but better. Don’t waste time boiling distilled water. That method (without using the insulated lunch bag) resulted in very cracked spheres that broke into pieces in a beverage. If they included an option to add &/or explanation for use of the insulated container, I’d consider an upgrade to 5 stars. 4 of these sphere molds, plus an insulated container to freeze them in, is still about 35% the cost of the Wintersmiths sphere mold with container."

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Works just as advertized. Great price, fun!

"These spherical ice cube makers are a lot of fun. Given that they're pretty cheap, I really wish I had bought them earlier! I was able to get significantly clearer spheres of ice when I boiled tap water before freezing (I poured it into the mold while it was still hot). Try it - one without boiling, and one with boiling (I attached a picture of the A/B test I did above)"

Best Sphere Ice Mold

The best ice sphere mold comes from Tovolo. It has real rust-proof qualities, unlike the cheap plastic ones. It also lasts surprisingly long without diluting the drink. I bought other shapes of same brand that also work great. If you like whiskey on the rocks then you should get it. I love feedback so please let me know if this review was Helpful or not helpful.

You will get two molds each able to produce a perfect 2.5 inch ice sphere. The molds are very easy to fill. Make sure to follow directions after applying the ice to the mold. I for one do not recommend this type of product. I looked into getting some whiskey stones for Scotch on the rocks without watering down the Scotch so much. Most of what I read for the "affordable" stones is that they could keep a cold drink cold, but wouldn't really get a room temperature drink cold. Enter ice spheres, which can use the coldness of ice to cool down a drink without watering it down.

Sophisticated Sphere Ice Mold

If you are tierd of always using ice cubes for your drinks these sophisticated ice spheres will certainly spruce your cocktail up. Inviting guests to share a drink with a giant ice sphere is a unique and delicious experience. You'll get perfectly round spheres that melt slowly and don't dilute your drink. I highly recommend. Great product. This is easy to use and the ice comes out in nice spheres. The molds are easy to fill as long as you follow directions. I've given this to friends, and they love them too! As a straight-up vodka drinker who lives in a warm climate, it's always a challenge to keep it cold (as it does come straight out of my freezer) without diluting it with quickly melting ice.

Because the sphere is so large it will melt very slowly and keep the drink cold for a long time. I tried other products that would melt and dilute my drinks, but these work just as good or better than any other ice molds I've seen. I don't use these for cocktails, so my balls are usually pretty cold anyway, but these are perfect for an ice cold Mc. Rib or other sweet drink. I usually make a decent quantity of these in a row, so I can always have a supply on hand if I need it. I definitely recommend these ones if you want perfect spheres, they're fairly easy to use, and they produce decent volumes of ice.

Userfriendly Sphere Ice Mold

The ice mold is easy to handle, clean, and refill. If you use hot water to loosen the silicone lid, the sphere will come off easily. Avoid running water over the vent hole, unless you don't mind a "dimple" in your sphere. The sphere is large enough to comfortably fit in a vial or the like. To remove, run warm - not hot - water over the silicone portion of the lid. Avoid running water over the middle of the silicone, unless you don't mind a "cloud" in your sphere. The ice sphere is porous, so if you drop it into your beverage, it will break. Avoid running water over the vent hole, unless you don't mind a "cloud" in your sphere.

Important as always is that the materials use are toxin free and designed for food. I wouldn't expect these to perform so well for a beverage, but the spheres do in fact perform better than traditional ice cubed around the rim. You get a perfect sphere, without messy ice blocks or complicated carving. Just pour the sphere in your glass and enjoy your drink! I have no complaints, I think the price is very reasonable and the quality of the product justifies the price. I bought some other brand that have a hinge and a small opening to fill it up. These work great (bought another set). Filling them is easy and the ice pops out with no fuss. Fits perfectly in a Yeti 20 or 30 oz.
